Helen F. Shebesh (nee Lelito) 91 of Schererville, formerly of Whiting, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, April 4, 2024 at her residence. She was the beloved wife of the late John F. Shebesh, who passed away February 17, 1983; loving mother of Karen Shebesh, Deborah (Don) Wickenden, Laure (Thomas) Hetzel, Russell (Lauri) Shebesh and Mark Shebesh; adopted son, Scott Wolski; cherished grandmother of eight; cherished sister of the late Edmond (Geraldine) Lelito and the late Leonard (late Genevieve) Lelito; dearest aunt to many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 10:00am at St. Adalbert Church, 121st Street and Indianapolis Blvd, Whiting, with the Rev. Mark R. Peres, C.PP.S., officiating; inurnment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois; visitation at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th Street, Whiting on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00pm and at the church on Friday morning from 9:00am to time of services. Helen Shebesh was born on December 12, 1932 to Edward and Sophie (Knop) Lelito and was a longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. She was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1950 and was a member of St. Adalbert Church, Whiting. She enjoyed doing water aerobics at the Hammond Civic Center and was a former employee of Marshall Field & Company/ Macy’s, at the River Oaks Center, Calumet City. An avid gardener, she loved music, making pierogi and spending time in Michigan at the home she and her husband had built. Devoted to her family, Helen will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
